The Contender -
Late Summer 1999

Dear Partner in Ministry,

We have just had a new extension of our driveway created and landscape work done between the Bookstore building and the All Purpose Building including the making of a new gravel area behind the building that would allow for parking and pick-up there. We are very thankful to those who contributed work and material for this project, especially Don Corp. It was most needed and very well done.

HOSTED MISSIONARY TO STUDENTS

We were glad to have hosted our dear friend and Board member, Joe Whitchurch, and his friend Phil, from Purdue University. Joe and Phil stayed overnight here and then addressed the two morning services of Lena Free Church. It was inspiring to hear of the progress the Gospel is making through the efforts of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship under Joe's leadership on many campuses in Indiana. Phil spoke of the inroads being made into the "Greek System" that is popularly associated with the movie "Animal House." Phil said that 1/3 of his house of 90 members went with him to a Christian retreat! We offered our house for the purpose of hosting future leadership retreats from Indiana as we have in the past with the Bradley University Students involved in Student's High On Christ (SHOC).

RADIO NEWS

We have now have had four programs broadcast on KOLE AM radio in Beaumont, Texas (pop.218,000). We were contacted by the station and offered the 5:00 PM time slot on Saturdays. The station covers Galveston, and part of Houston. The signal goes at least a hundred miles out into the Gulf of Mexico as they hear from oil riggers out there. The signal carries into Lousiana and the first town that hears us is Vinton (pop.20,000) If you live, or know someone who lives, in the area please let them know to tune us in!

Israel, Turkey and Petra Jordan
With Dr. David Allen Lewis

We are proposing a tour to Israel, Lord willing, this Fall with Dr. David Allen Lewis, President of Christians United For Israel. David is one of the most beloved Evangelicals in Israel. He has proven his devotion to the well being of the nation of Israel time and time again. David has a daughter and son-in-law living in Jerusalem and his tours are always packed with exciting information and wonderful accomodations.

Last year we had 90 people and two tour buses when I co-led a tour with Pastor Larry Marvel. You can read a letter I recieved from a couple who were on my bus by clicking here.

My participation as a co-leader of the tour is contingent on having enough people go to help defray the costs of travel for me and my wife and/or one of my sons. Last year we had ninety people go which was more than enough to cover the costs on my end. We need at least ten people to go this year. Without much advertising or any mailings we already have two who have said they are going. If you wish a brochure explaining the tour you may write to us and ask for one. If you are reading this on our website you may click here for a complete itinerary of the trip. If you are reading this elsewhere our website address is www.contender.org where you can find the itinerary. You must write for the dates and times however.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

  • Pray for the Christian friends of someone we are told is an attractive young woman in the Chicago area who has been involved in Satanism for three years. She is said to be having incestuous relations with her twelve year old son at the request of the cult.
  • Pray for the safety of the son, salvation for both and wisdom for the Christians involved.
  • Pray that the proper church and state people get involved before futher damage is done to this mother and especially the child.
  • Pray for a woman involved in Jesus Only Pentecostalism that she would become a true Christian. She is very fearful of evil and is reported to be mistreating her children because of it and is allegedly in danger of losing them if she continues on her current path.
  • Pray for a young man who attends a Christadelphian cult fellowship who recently attended our Monday Night Meeting. We understand he was favorably impressed and he certainly heard the Gospel while attending.
  • Pray for a Christian man who is still struggling with financial problems and some bitterness brought on by his being given bad stewardship advice in a hyper-faith church setting as a young man.

  • Pray for a Christian man who is still struggling with financial problems and some bitterness brought on by his being betrayed years ago by someone he co-founded a company with.

  • Pray for a man who is attending an Evangelical church whose unborn baby was aborted by his girlfriend and who is very enamored with Watchtower Bible and Tract Society theology.

  • Pray for Evangelical woman whose daughter is questioning her faith because she is working with a very nice Mormon lady and questions a God who would send a a religious moral person to hell.

  • Pray for a prisoner who has a burden for Jehovah's Witnesses and wants our involvement in helping him create a special outreach program. He murdered someone twelve years ago but has since become a Christian. Pray for wisdom for all involved.

  • Pray for a Christian married couple who are working through the after effects of an affair.

MINISTRY PRAYER NEEDS

  • Pray for our new ministry partner KOLE radio that God would cause the right messages to reach the right people who need to hear them in Texas and Louisiana.

  • Pray for the ministry's transportation needs ie: a new van. The van we have was quite old when we got it having had around 90,000 miles on it then two years ago -when it was new (well, it was to us)! We put roughly 400 miles a week on it and it is already needing quite a few repairs.

  • Please continue to pray for our general fund, property improvement fund and publications fund.

  • Pray for God's protection and leading for this ministry and for all of our health.

  • Pray God would continue to strengthen Dr. David Allen Lewis as he recovers from bad back problems.

There are many needs represented here and we appreciate your taking them to the throne of grace for us. Please tell others that they may do so as well. Again, thank you in advance!

In His Service Gladly,

Kevin
