Why Apologetics?

Why Apologetics?
Apologetics Is Scripturally Mandated: The Greek word apologia means "to give a reasoned defense for what you believe to be true." 1 Peter 3:15 is one of 19 times in the New Testament it, or its verb form, is found. The late F.F. Bruce cited that 47% of the New Testament deals with defense of the faith. Apologetics is a divine command.

What is Apologetics?
The Greek word apologia means "to to give a reasoned defense for what you believe to be true." 1 Peter 3:15 is one of 19 times in the New Testament it, or its verb form, is found. The late F.F. Was Apologetics Part Of The Early Apostolic Church's Example To Us?
"Join with others in following my example brothers and take note of those living according to the pattern we gave you....for many live as enemies of the cross of Christ."  Apostle Paul In Philippians 3:17

Where Do We Find The Example And Pattern Of Paul?
Paul's "pattern" or "custom" is found in Acts 17. It includes reasoning with and persuading everyone he could in the marketplace, as well as in religious gatherings, about the Gospel of Jesus Christ! This is the very heart of apologetics dialogue.

Why Do We Need To Challenge And Contradict Others?
"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." -2 Timothy 4:2-4

What Cause Do We Have To Doubt A Teacher, and Isn't this Disrespectful?
If Paul Can Be Questioned Then Anybody Can Be!

We Need Discernment:
"These [the Bereans] were more noble [minded] than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." Acts 17:11

Is Apologetics Just Limited To Paul's Teaching?
NO!

The Apostle Peter Agreed That Apologetic Reasoning Was Important
Always be prepared to give to every man who asks you a reasoned defense (apologia) for the hope that lies within you but do this with gentleness and respect."
Apostle Peter In 1 Peter 3:15

Apostle Jude Thought Apologetics Was Important
"Earnestly contend for the faith that was once and for all delivered to the saints."  Jude Three

A False Gospel And A False Jesus Doesn't Save!

What Is Eternal Life?
"This is eternal Life To Know Thee the only true God And Jesus Christ Whom Thou Hast sent"  Jesus In John 17:3

Can There Be "Another Jesus," "Another Spirit" and "Another Gospel?"
"For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him."   Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:3-5 (bold emphasis ours)

"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we preached unto you, let him be accursed." Apostle Paul in Galatians 1:8
